1922 – 2005
Inez Elson was born in Parkhill, Ontario in 1922. In 1967, Inez and husband John O’Reilly opened Point Ellice House to the public. Inez was passionate about Provincial and Canadian heritage and she was instrumental in preventing the demolition of Point Ellice House. Inez also advocated for the preservation of the Selkirk/Gorge Waterway and she was actively involved in a number of historical societies. During the Second World War, Inez served with the Royal Canadian Air Force, Fighter Air Command. Later, she became one of the first female private detectives in Canada. Inez and John were the last people to live at Point Ellice House, leaving after its sale to the Province in 1975.
