The following F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions) provides information on our efforts to mitigate the risks associated with COVID-19 to protect our guests as well as our staff and volunteers.
Is there a Code of Conduct?
There is a code of conduct all visitors are expected to adhere to: Point Ellice House Museum and Gardens is committed to providing an environment and services that respect the dignity, self-worth, and human rights of every individual and is free from any form of violence, discrimination, or harassment. We will not tolerate any acts of violence, discrimination, or harassment perpetrated against or by any employee, contractor, volunteer, or member of the public utilizing our services and space.
How do I book my visit?
You can make an appointment to visit Point Ellice House Museum and Gardens by clicking here. The number of people in your group is limited to 6.
What is open at Point Ellice House?
The Visitor Centre: Your appointment includes 30 minutes inside the Visitor Centre to view our new feature exhibit [Details here]. There will be no other visitors inside the exhibit space during your visit – you’ll have it all to yourself! After 30 minutes, you will be asked to exit to the grounds so that the next group of visitors can enter the building.
The Gardens: Our heritage gardens are open. After experiencing our feature exhibit, you can spend as much time as you like on the grounds. Staff and volunteers are available to answer your questions and tell you more about our historic site. We also have an outdoor exhibit on the history of Point Ellice House for you to experience. Consider bringing a picnic to enjoy on the lawn.
Point Ellice House: Unfortunately due to public health guidelines and conservation concerns, the historic house is not open. However, you can view 360 degree images of its rooms by clicking here.
Where do I go when I arrive for my visit?
Visitors should try to arrive no more than 10 minutes before their appointment. Please come to the Visitor Centre front door. A staff member will open the door for you just prior to your appointment time. If you have an admission pass, please have this ready.
Can I bring a group of more than 6 people?
At this time, groups are limited to 6 people total.
What steps are being taken to follow public health guidelines?
Other than staff, you will be the only person(s) inside the Visitor Centre. We have implemented cleaning and sanitizing procedures for the building. A plexiglass barrier is also in place at our front desk to protect our staff and visitors. High touch surfaces are cleaned after each visitor. Visitors are reminded to adhere to physical distancing (2 metres) while on the grounds and are asked to remain at home if they have recently traveled outside BC or have signs of any symptoms associated with COVID-19.
Can I book a visit on a day other than Saturday?
At this time we are only open on Saturdays. Once we have a chance to evaluate demand and our public health measures, we will consider opening up other days of the week.
What if I’m late for my appointment?
Visitors have 30 minutes inside the Visitor Centre to view our feature exhibit. If you are late, your time in the Visitor Centre will be reduced. If you miss your appointment entirely, you will have to reschedule.
Can I cancel/reschedule my appointment?
If necessary, we ask that you reschedule or cancel at least 2 days before your visit. Cancellations made after this period will be subject to a cancellation fee.
