Letters – 1888-89

These letters were transcribed to accurately reproduce the originals -i.e. The spelling, punctuation, and capitalization follow the originals as precisely as possible.

2020 – This series of letters, mostly written by Peter to his wife Caroline, documents Peter’s travels in 1888–89 while the rest of the family was residing in England. The children’s ages are roughly as follows: Frank, 22 years old; Kathleen, 20 years old; Jack, 15 years old. Jack was attending Uppingham School in England at the time.

This collection was originally titled “O’Reilly Family Letters Volume II” and was renamed in 2020 during the digitization and reorganization process.

Note [2020]:  Closed brackets may indicate notations left by the original transcriptionist. Any footnotes added from the 2020 transcription will begin with “2020” for clarity.

This collection of letters has been digitized from an earlier transcription project and is for informational purposes only. This transcription has not been verified against the originals. Researchers interested in these letters should consult the original documents housed at the BC Archives.
