Dear Miss O’Reilly

Thank you so much for your very kind letter. You must forgive me for feeling a little sore and bitter, but I am not really wicked. My mother is off today for Herefordshire to get Holme Lacy ready for the arrival of my brother and his new wife, whilst they are amusing themselves at Goodmood. She comes back here again next week, before making her start for Scotland, so if you are returning to England you might find her here. I am going up to Scotland tomorrow night, so I’m afraid I shant have the pleasure of seeing you. How long do you suppose you will remain in England? I am sorry I must think it out a bit first. It is much cooler now, & I hear very cold in Scotland

Ever yrs sincerely

Harry Stanhope
